Daily Drawing 741 – 500 BC

Dragon 538 – As the Roman’s strength grew, most of northern Europe was controlled by the Celts. Their strength was all thanks to Afanc the dragon and Cradoc. Of course their names became legendary. Unfortunately Afanc’s description was greatly distorted over the years. “Its exact description varies; it is described variously as resembling a crocodile, beaver or dwarf-like creature, and is sometimes said to be a demon.” – Wikipedia

Luckily after the Roman occupation Wales found a proper picture of Afanc and put him on their flag so he would always be remembered…many Welsh were happy that the beaver version of the flag was tossed in favour of the one still used today.

*I hope my friends from Cymru forgive me for my version of history. I totally would have drawn a beaver dragon if I had known about the legend before I went looking for a name for this dragon. Maybe he’ll appear in a future drawing.
