Daily Drawing 760 – 550 AD Elephanta Temple

Dragon 557 – The natural enemy of the dragon, the elephant has been used for ages to protect the temple on Gharapuri.

There’s an island in Mumbai Harbour called Elephanta island, or Gharapuri, that has a temple hewn into the rocks of the hills. The Temple was built some time between the 5th and 8th Century, some believe it was mid 6th century. It’s a cool temple, so I had to go there with my dragons. The question was how to connect the two. Turns out the Portuguese named “Elephanta” island because of a large stone elephant sculpture on the island. It also turns out that according to Pliny the Elder, the dragon is the natural enemy of the elephant.
