I had a lot of fun painting “Diogi”…until I got to the background.
When I added the background to “Bayani and Brew” I got to thinking about pictures me and my buddy Chad took in Europe back in 1993. I was sure some of those images would make great backdrops for the dragons.
Sure enough I found a great picture of the gates to the city of Rhodes. I had to photoshop out a few cars and a moped, but it was looking promising. The problem actually turned out to be the sky. Given that the picture was taken pre-digital days, I had to scan the image in and the blue of the sky was so brilliant, that the dragon just disappeared.
I probably spent an hour just trying to get the sky to a colour that I was happy with.
