Daily Drawing 749 – 272 AD Rome

Dragon 546 – Leocadius the Dragon Legion’s mascot tries to distract the standard bearer before a march in front of Emperor Aurelian.

In the 2nd Century, the Roman adopted a dragon standard. I thought that would be a good time period to visit for this dragon. I’m not sure why I chose the year 272. There seems to be some question as to what year the dragon standard was adopted, but by the second half of the century it was definitely being used. I guess I figured 272 was as good of a year as any other.
