Karen Lou Who – Part I

Karen_Lou_Hoo_twoEver wonder what you’d look like as a character out of a Dr. Suess story? Let me introduce you to my fiance as Karen Lou Who (Cindy Lou Who) from “The Grinch who stole Christmas”.

Here she is as herself…

After seeing how cute the drawing turned out, I thought it would be fun to see if I could sculpt Karen Lou Who. It’s been a long, long time since I’ve sculpted anything! So needless to say, my first attempt wound up back as a ball of clay about 10 minutes after I started. I wondered if I could still sculpt at all.

Luckily the second attempt didn’t frustrate me so quickly…Here’s Karen after day one:

Karen_01I used a wooden skewer for support, but it didn’t take long for me to realize the ‘legs’ were having trouble supporting the weight of the clay. Luckily the skewer is poking through the plastic lid below the figure into styrofoam. I simply pulled the skewer out a bit so that the weight of the figure is hanging from the wood and not on the legs. I’m hoping she’ll dry out a bit overnight and I can polish her up a bit.
