I don’t often paint landscapes, even digitally, but this piece evolved into something that surprised me! I was playing with ideas for backgrounds for a finished dragon, and I started playing with some photos I had taken on a sailing trip through the islands off the coast of Vancouver a few years ago. I cropped and adjusted colours, basically just playing with the photo to make it work with the style of the dragon illustration. I ended up having so much fun with the image that I thought it could easily stand alone without the dragon.
(I did end up using a version of the landscape with the background of the dragon image too – but that’s for later this week)
